Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a new system of treatment using microamperage current and the resonance effects of frequencies on pain and injuries. This can create beneficial changes in symptoms and health. FSM Therapy is a technique for treating pain by using low-level electrical current. A chiropractor delivers the current to certain parts of the body to provide relief.

How Does it Work?

Frequency Specific Microcurrent is a system of treatment uses microamperage, similar to TENS. Microcurrent is approved in the category of TENS devices by the FDA.  This approach of microcurrent technology is to use tiny “doses” of electrical energy at very precise frequencies of energy. A professional applies these doses to the body in a specific sequence. By observing how the body responds, the technician can work out which frequencies work the best for you. A chiropractor is the medical professional who typically performs frequency specific microcurrent therapy.

One of the ways FSM therapy works is by possibly increasing the production of the substance ATP in injured tissues. ATP is the major source of energy for all cellular reactions in the body. Because treatment with FSM can increase ATP production by as much as 500% in damaged tissues and this may help with the recovery process. Depending on the condition, treatment with FSM can “loosen” or soften the muscles, which can help relieve pain and/or stiffness.

The chiropractor measures frequencies in hertz as pulses per second. They can be sound waves or electronic pulses. The frequencies of FSM are electromagnetic pulses used on two channels firing at the same time. Most microcurrent devices use square wave pulses because they are more effective clinically. The frequencies used in FSM are all less than 1000 Hz.

Effectiveness of FSM depends solely on an accurate diagnosis. FSM therapy typically treats pain, especially nerve and muscle pain, inflammation, and scar tissue.

Every case is unique. However, depending on the condition and the patient’s level of pain, the effects of an FSM treatment for pain can last several days or longer. For acute injuries, lasting pain relief can often be achieved.

Is FSM Therapy Painful?

Treatment with FSM is non-invasive and painless. The currents used in FSM are so low that the patient often does not feel them. There have been reports of people perceiving the sensation as being “light or floaty” or slightly lightheaded (but not dizzy) and lasts only as long as the practitioner is using a frequency that is producing a positive effect on the patient. The “floaty feeling” response occurs not as a result of any particular frequency but in response to any frequency that resonates with the patient’s condition. During FSM treatment, patients may notice other certain effects, including warmth and a softening of affected tissues. The side effects of FSM treatment are usually very rare and mild and may include nausea and drowsiness

What Can FSM Therapy Treat?

FSM therapies are especially effective at treating nerve and muscle pain, inflammation and scar tissue. Also, it has been documented that it can change pain and function in a large number of clinical conditions. A qualified chiropractor, such as the staff at A Family Chiropractic Clinic, can determine if FSM is an effective treatment plan for your condition.

It appears that certain conditions respond very well to specific combinations of frequencies. One example of this is fibromyalgia. There is a kind of fibromyalgia associated with spine trauma that is particularly painful and difficult to treat even with narcotics. One frequency combination successfully helped reduce pain in these patients.

Another condition that has been successfully treated with FSM is Shingles. Shingles responds very well to one frequency combination that eliminates the pain in approximately twenty minutes and causes the lesions to dry up and disappear in approximately two to three days.

There is one frequency combination that has been 100% effective in eliminating kidney stone pain, so far. This frequency combination will not remove the stone; however, it successfully eliminates the pain. There is evidence that patients who are suffering from a recent auto accident or surgery experience pain relief with FSM therapy within four hours of the incident. Plus, the therapy also greatly accelerates the healing process.

Other conditions can be treated with frequency-specific microcurrent

So far, these are just a few of the painful conditions that FSM therapy can treat. FSM can also successfully treat the muscle, nerve and tissue pain, inflammation, and scar tissue from the conditions listed below:

Conditions

  • Burns
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Disc injuries
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Neuromas (overgrowth and scarring to a nerve after an injury)
  • Tendinopathy (inflammation and/or swelling of the tendon)
  • Musculoskeletal injuries that are recent or chronic
  • Acute and chronic neuropathic (nerve) pain
  • Chronic fracture and bone pain
  • Chronic fracture and bone pain

  • Disc injuries/discogenic- and facet-based pain
  • Viscerally referred pain
  • Concussions
  • Headaches
  • Plantar fasciitis (pain in the heel and foot)
